About KBEST
The KBEST Program (KBEST) is a seven-year, $25 million project funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada. Implemented by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) in collaboration with Kenya’s Ministry of Education, the KBEST program aims to enhance the capacity of Kenyan technical and vocational training (TVET) institutions and agencies to deliver skills training programs that meet international standards and respond to the needs of the industry. Building on CICan’s experience and initiatives like Kenya Education for Employment Program (KEFEP) and Young Africa Works, KBEST enhances the local capacity to deliver gender-responsive skills training in the Blue Economy (BE) sector.
The program focuses on training women, youth, and vulnerable groups in BE fields with high employment potential. Recognizing prior learning and modularized competency-based training expedite students’ entry into the job market. KBEST addresses gender barriers through adapted courses, outreach, scholarships, and industry placements. The program offers flexibility through online and blended training aligned with Kenyan policies. Overall, KBEST aims to strengthen local institutions to meet the BE sector’s workforce needs.
