Bring the world to your home: host an international student this fall

This article was published on: August 5th, 2025

With the fall term around the corner, Niagara College seeks families to host international students and invites employees to participate in the College’s Homestay program. This is a unique opportunity to embrace cultural exchange and make a meaningful impact in a student’s journey.

For this fall, hosting opportunities are available for commitments ranging from one to four months. Hosts must live along a public transit route within 45 minutes of the Welland Campus, or within a 20-minute walk of the campus.

Welcoming an international student allows host families to experience new world views, without leaving the comforts of their home. It opens the door to a personal and professional development opportunity, especially for those working in the postsecondary system.

Host families offer more than just a room — they provide a sense of belonging by helping students improve their English, connect with the local community, and gain a broader perspective of Canadian customs and values.

Hosts are compensated $950 CAD per month for their involvement. Fees include meals, private bedroom with bed, dresser, desk and unlimited internet access.

Those interested in the program are encouraged to click here to submit their application at their earliest convenience.
