Twenty prospective students from Ukraine visited Niagara College on July 13 through a Familiarization Study Tour organized by the OSVITA Tour Agency.
“The Familiarization Tour allowed students from the Ukraine to experience Niagara College’s beautiful campus and community,” said Elena Pshegorskaya, International Consultants for Education and Fairs (CEF) trained agent counsellor at OSVITA Tour Agency.
“I feel that Niagara College will be a perfect place for some of these students to study. Some of the students are interested in big cities, but we are from a small city in the Ukraine called Cherkassy, with a population of approximately 300,000 people and I feel that Niagara College will be a great fit for our students.”
The Study in Niagara Familiarization Tour this past April 2018 was the first time Pshegorskaya, had visited Niagara College. The experience had such a positive impact that Pshegorskaya wanted to bring prospective students from her agency to tour the facility in-person to have a similar experience as she had. “The students are very excited about visiting Niagara College; they love Canada and its atmosphere.”
Ranging in age from 14 to 17, the prospective students from Ukraine cities such as Cherkasy, Kiev and Kremenchug, arrived in Canada two weeks ago and are enrolled in a three-week English course in Toronto.
“I’m falling in love with Canada,” said Yuliana Sokolenko, prospective student from Cherkassy, Ukraine. “Canada is a beautiful country with a good atmosphere and I feel at home here.”
The Ukraine student began touring the College optimistic about NC, but also passionate about the structure of a university. However, by the end of the tour, Sokolenko, expressed touring the Niagara-on-the- Lake Campus allowed her to see a different side of the college system.
“Niagara College changed my opinion about the college system and opened my eyes to its possibilities,” said Sokolenko. “After touring the campus, learning more about how important applied learning is and how Niagara College promotes it, I can see its value. I will definitely be considering both universities and colleges now.”
Niagara College is able to root theory with real-life practice and experience to better instill its curriculum and education.
Alex Titov is a 16-year-old prospective student from Kiev, Ukraine. Although it is his first time in Canada, Titov is already considering studying in Canada for his postsecondary education, referencing the country’s friendly nature and beautiful scenery.
“The tour was very interesting and the staff were very friendly,” shared Titov. “I liked learning about the areas of the campus where students are able to study outside of the classroom, such as the library and cafeteria foyer.”
During the tour, Titov witnessed current Niagara College students socializing in the library as they worked on group projects and was intrigued by the dynamics.
Students are able to gain a better sense of the atmosphere of NC through Familiarization Tours and benefit from a greater perspective of what student life is like at Niagara College as well as Canada. Niagara College is able to showcase its campus and facilities as well as the students, faculty and staff that make the College a welcoming and inviting community to join.
