The Leading National Academy (LNA) of Niagara College Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (NC KSA) was recognized as the “Most Impactful Diversity & Inclusion Initiative” at the 2022 Middle East People Awards. The awards were organized by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) for its role in empowering Saudi women by broadening employment opportunities.

As Saudi Arabia’s first training centre established for women, the not-for-profit LNA provides job ready females for technical and vocational industries. The academy trains young sponsored Saudi females for entry-level jobs in different vocational trades and sectors. This endeavor introduces new opportunities and skills for females that did not exist in the market before.

Founded in response to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 of having quality education delivery, LNA was established by Saudi Aramco, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD), the Technical & Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC), and Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF). The Academy offers trainees five different specializations and trade-based programs offered to Saudi females for the first time, such as Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technician; Electrical Technician; and Quality Control Building Inspection.

Supporting diversity and inclusion is a priority for Niagara College and its global campuses. LNA supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG number four (“Quality Education”), SDG number five (“Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”), SDG number eight (“Decent Work and Economic Growth”), and SDG number 10 (“Reduced Inequalities”).

“LNA has a significant positive impact in providing women with skills and confidence to thrive in the workforce and entrepreneurial initiatives, supporting global efforts towards gender equity,” said Sean Coote, NC’s Vice President, International.

The Middle East People Awards winners were announced on December 8 at the Awards Gala Dinner in the Address Montgomerie resort in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Since 2019, the Awards have spotlighted the best individuals, teams, and organizations for their superior people development and management results in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Region. Global experts and independent consultants who composed the judging panel reviewed over 90 submissions this year. Their criteria for choosing the winners across ten categories were innovation, alignment with the business, impact, and relevance.
