Services

Niagara College offers many services for international students.  All are intended to make your stay in Canada as easy as possible.   We work to understand our students and their goals and focus our services around that understanding.  

Airport Pick-Up Service

Airport Pick-Up Service – for a small fee, the college will arrange to pick you up at the airport upon arrival.  Your arrival and first days in Canada are very important and we encourage you to use our pick-up service.  A member of the college staff or your Homestay family will personally meet you at the airport and take you to your new home.  We will be able to answer any questions you have and help make your first days in Canada and at Niagara College very comfortable. This service is provided for a nominal fee of $100 Cdn. To arrange for pick up, please complete the Airport Pick-up Form.

Orientation

Niagara College organizes a special international student orientation that is very important.  This orientation is designed to help you with your adjustment to Canada, your new home and your new school.  It will also help prepare you for your classes and answer many questions that you might have.

Immigration

Niagara College has an International Student Advisor (ISA) who specializes in understanding of Canadian immigration rules and regulations that apply to international students.   The ISA offers free assistance with extending or applying for study permits, applying for work permits (for eligible students), applying for a re-entry visa and applying for visitor visas for other countries (like the United States).

Social Events

Activities and social events are organized regularly to help you enjoy your time at Niagara College. Some include:

  • Christmas, Halloween parties
  • Diwali, Asian New Year, Black History Month and Latin parties
  • trips to the Sugar Bush
  • hiking and enjoying nature
  • day trips and shopping in Toronto
  • visiting Niagara Falls
  • camping in northern Canada

Computers

There are over 1,000 computers at each campus for students to use free of charge.  Each campus has student open access labs, which have many computers for students to use.  The labs are open early and remain open late, so students can do work in the computer labs after classes.   Each lab is equipped with pay for use printers.  All computers have high-speed internet access and are free to use.

There are also laptop network connections for students to use at each campus, however, your computer must have a LAN card. 

Banking

There are several large banks in Canada and most have branches throughout Niagara.  Students are encouraged to open a bank account as soon as they arrive. It does not cost anything to open a bank account and all that is needed is your passport. The best bank is the one that is most convenient to you.

Medical

Canada has a very good medical system and ranks among the top medical countries in the world.   All international students studying at Niagara College are covered by Student Guard and will receive their insurance cards automatically, shortly after the term begins.
