Projects in Saudi Arabia

Niagara College Partners with King Faisal Hospital

Seeing the personal relationships that have formed by our staff going
to Riyadh and the students of the KF coming to Niagara has made this much more than simply an educational exchange.  It has put
truth to the statement “Bringing the world to Niagara and Niagara to the world.” Lesley Calvin, International Projects Specialist

Niagara College is a proud partner of the Training and Development Department of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Since 2006 we have assisted in the development and delivery of education and training related to their Medical Secretary Program (MSP).

Niagara College has provided course deliveries at the hospital from April 2007 until the present.  The program areas are Mentor Training, Secretarial Professionalism and Business Communications. Niagara College also receives two graduates per year from the KFSHRC MSP program to the Office Administration - General Certificate program.

The KFSHRC is a centre of excellence in biomedical research, and desires to expose its students to the high standards of a North American post-secondary institution while also providing opportunities for them to study abroad. The Niagara College/King Faisal partnership allows us to not only support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s desire to “Saudiize” their workforce, but also provides unique training and cultural experiences for Saudi women.

For over a decade, the Saudi government has prioritized “Saudiization”—an initiative aimed at increasing employment of Saudi nationals throughout the workforce while reducing dependence on foreign workers. Traditionally, foreign workers have composed a large portion of the Saudi workforce.

Approximately 40 Saudi nationals have graduated from the program so far. The program will change in 2010 when the entire second semester of the OAGC program will be delivered in Saudi Arabia by Niagara College staff.
