Tourism Development Training in Lithuania

From November 16th to November 29th 2003, Niagara College's International Division hosted two visitors from Kaunas College in Kaunas, Lithuania; Jolanta Valiaugiene, Director of International and Marketing and Audrone Luksaitiene, Dean of Tourism.

The purpose of the visit was to learn about Niagara College's tourism programs, and the Niagara Region's tourism industry in order to gather information to improve the tourism curriculum at Kaunas College. The scheduled activities included: Tourism Development and Hotel Management Systems post graduate classes, a meeting with the Niagara Parks Commission, a meeting with the Tourism Industry Development Centre and, of course, a detailed tour of some of the regions most famed attractions.

In February 2004, project specialist Camille Chaumont (a graduate of Niagara College's Tourism Development Program) traveled to Lithuania along with two Tourism Development students. During their three-week stay, they developed projects with the students of Kaunas College as well as with some of the leaders of Kaunas' tourism industry in order to help them further develop the tourism programs offered at Kaunas College. They also demonstrated how bridging the gap between industry and education provides ideal learning opportunities.
