Niagara's Hospitality Greets China

Niagara College’s renowned hospitality program is finding a new market in China’s Jiangsu province. Articulation programs (guaranteeing that courses can be transferred from one educational institution to another) allow Niagara College to partner with Chinese institutions to save students time, money and frustration while providing them with two certifications–one from each institution.

The Hospitality Management – Hotel and Restaurant (Co-op) program is in its third year at the Changzhou Institute of Light Industry Technology (CZILI). Following a “2+1” format, the students complete two years of the Changzhou curriculum in Changzhou and then come to Niagara College for one year to complete the Hospitality Management diploma. ESL courses are available for students requiring extra English training.

Students who have successfully completed the requirements for the Niagara program are eligible to apply for entry to the Bachelor of Applied Business (Hospitality Operations Management) program .

Our first student from Changzhou arrived in September, 2008. He is currently taking ESL to prepare him for admittance into the professional courses in Hospitality Management.

Driving Golf in China

Golf is exploding in China. Not only has the number of golfers in China more than doubled in the last two years, but golf courses are being created at a record pace. Capitalizing on this interest, Niagara College has developed an agreement with the Overseas Education College (OEC) at Jiao Tong University to offer the Business Administration – Professional Golf (Co-op) program.

Students began studying in November 2008.  This program is based on a “2 + 1” model with the students studying for the first two years at OEC Jiao Tong University and the final year at Niagara College. Our goal is to have a cohort of 25-30 students per year coming to Niagara College to complete their diplomas

OEC has already set up programs to provide professional development to existing golf course managers.  These programs have been offered through a faculty member in Niagara College’s Golf program. Exciting new degree programs with Canadian universities are also currently being pursued.
