The goal of this project was to build strategic partnership networks in education, government,
Through these partnerships, Walter Sisulu University (WSU) increased its contribution to regional economic and social development through the implementation of the National Skills Development Strategy by creating competencies in addressing local labour market shortages as identified through research initiatives in accordance with the provincial skills plan. ![]() The Sustainable Skills Development project was a five year Canadian College Partnership Program managed by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC). This project was funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) which funds the CCPP through the Educational Institutions Program (EIP) of the Canadian Partnership Branch (CPB). In 2008, Niagara College and WSU began an extension of the SSD project entitled "IN REACH". This project supports economic growth through community development. The Other Half - Involving Xhosa Men in HIV/AIDS Programming (July 2006-2008)The Other Half Project seeks to address the disproportionate burden of HIV/AIDS on women in the Eastern Cape, one of South Africa’s poorest regions, by promoting male involvement in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Male behaviour is one of the main determinants of infection rates in women. By fostering dialogue between men and women, encouraging male youth participation in outreach programs, and strengthening the management capacity of the Ikhwezi Lokusa Wellness Centre to respond to the distinct needs of women, this project aims to challenge the socialized gender roles that increase women’s vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.
