The Ontario International Educational Opportunities Scholarship (OIEOS)

Does the cost of travel and the lack of money in your pocket prevent you from pursuing this dream?

The Ontario Provincial government recognizes that between the cost of travel, accommodation and international fees, studying and/or working overseas is out of reach for many students. Their solution? The Ontario International Education Opportunity Scholarship (OIEOS) designed both to generate interest in international opportunities and to provide students with financial support that allows them to study abroad and thus expand their knowledge and experience.

The OIEOS fund is part of the province of Ontario’s internationalization strategy for post-secondary institutions. It has been designed to increase accessibility to international opportunities by providing students with $2500 in financial support to further their international experiences and knowledge.

To be eligible for this funding you:

• must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent resident or a Protected Person

• must be in good academic standing, as defined by their home institution
• must have demonstrated financial need, as determined by Niagara College (Note: The funding does NOT require that a student be eligible for OSAP to receive an OIEOS award)
• must have your academic study, work study or co-op placements recognized by Niagara College as a part of you academic program.
• must be completing an international academic, work or co-op placement, a MINIMUM of 2 months in duration (the garnt can also be split in half $1250 for a 4 week minimum trip)
• are not already participating in a Government of Ontario funded exchange program

The individual scholarships are awarded to a student based on a combination of financial need and academic merit—with special consideration given to specific groups such as Aboriginal students, Francophone students and students with disabilities..

International education enriches the experience of students and strengthens competitiveness in the global economy. Students returning from an international opportunity also bring insight into new technologies and global processes that help enhance the province’s industries.

Niagara College is pleased to advise that it has secured funding to create an International Education Opportunity Scholarships for Niagara College students completing part of their academic program abroad. These scholarships will provide eligible students with financial support for an eligible period of academic study, work term or coop placement outside of Canada.
